Renovation is underway for the rebirth of an old building on the corner of Fairmont and Broadway. This Art Moderne building which was built in the mid-1920s was the former home of Pete Moore Appliances and several others. Serving as a haven for homeless people and showing significant wear from lack of care over the past 20 yrs, the building was awarded a 2005 Onion Award for its dilapidated appearance by Keep Knoxville Beautiful.

The newly named Taggart Building is being reinvented by MiLand Properties whose intent is to develop a neighborhood hub for living and working with an emphasis on sustainable living and modern design. The old front parking lot is being ripped up. A courtyard will take its place with enough green area to relax with friends or schedule events. A bus stop area will be provided at the front of the building for downtown KAT bus riders to rest and secure their bikes.

Currently, two spaces are available for lease/purchase. The first is a large dwelling on the second floor overlooking the courtyard. The second is office space with private access to Knoxville’s first commercial Green Roof. Ample parking is located at the rear of the building.
